Women Organized to Respond to Life-threatening Diseases (WORLD) is seeking Front Office volunteers to assist in the managing of WORLD’s front office and reception area. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a non-profit/office setting, and join an enthusiastic and collaborative team based in Oakland, CA.

Location: Oakland, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Handles incoming phone calls, refers calls to appropriate WORLD staff or other organizations, and screens visitors who wish to access the office.
  • Greets and directs visitors, volunteers, and clients who have appointments with our Peer Advocates or Outreach and Linkage Specialists.
  • Supports Administrative Assistant as needed in completion of Operations tasks
  • Secures in-kind donations for food, respite care, and other program needs
  • Works directly with Supervisors and line staff to support overall project needs
This opportunity is ideal for college students who are looking to expand their work experience, build their resume, and a meaningful connection to the Oakland community. Not only do you gain valuable administrative skills, but past volunteers have contributed to a variety of projects, including assisting with grant development, and working with our Policy and Advocacy team. During low key days, you are more than welcome to work on homework, read, listen to music, and watch videos (keeping professionalism in mind, of course).

WORLD house is open Monday through Friday from 9-5, and you are welcome to make your own hours to work with your schedule. We also have opportunities to volunteer during "off-hours" events such as tabling at First Friday or helping facilitate our yearly "Let's Talk About Sex" event held in honor of National Women and Girls' HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Qualifications:

- Discretion, patience, and kindness are a must!

- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

- Seeking compassionate and patient individuals with an appreciation of service to their community

Description

WORLD is an organization internationally recognized for our work with women. Our services include support groups, linkage to care, peer advocacy, educational classes and forums, policy and advocacy work, and retreats for positive women. We also work with youth, have a speakers bureau, and participate in special events such as the AIDS walk.
