Company Description
Sprouts is a nonprofit that teaches kids from all socioeconomic backgrounds what REAL food is all about. We do this through hands-on cooking with REAL chefs from hotshot restaurants in San Francisco Bay Area, and have recently expanded to New York! With the support of Jamie Oliver and the endorsement of Alice Waters on our advisory board, we fulfill our mission through 5 main programs:
Free Classes at Girls Inc for in-need young girls
After School Cooking Classes for Bay Area students from all backgrounds
Classes and Camps on weekends and school breaks for diverse Bay Area youth
Chef-in-training Internships for at-risk young adults that want to change their lives around through a culinary career
Classes for children with special needs
We are educating and inspiring youth in the kitchen every day, thanks to the dedication of 10 full and part-time team members, 6 interns, 25+ volunteers, and 100+ local chefs.
Job Posting:Take off that formal business attire and get ready for a summer week packed with celebrity chefs, delectable food, and fun-loving kids. At the end of the week, you will have developed new cooking skills, eaten a ton of delicious bites from hotshot restaurants, and made new friends with local chefs and restaurants! Join us for a slammin' summer week, and help us in our mission to teach kids about cooking and nutrition to lead healthier lives!
Your Role:As a Camp Assistant, you will be working hands-on with a group of 17 elementary aged kids, alongside your team of counselors and camp staff. Which also means that you will be first in line for all of the delicious food that we cook up with our chef friends! The Summer Camp Assistant will have plenty of opportunities to show leadership and facilitate the flow of each day: from talking to parents to helping teach a class or two!
Your Team:In this role you will be working with our growing team of 10 full and part-time team members, several interns, and over 25 volunteers. You'll also be working very closely with our Summer Camp staff of 15 seasonal camp managers, operations interns, marketing interns, and counselors. Your team members will be there to support you in your role, and will quickly become your new friends! The team is a group of like-minded foodies excited to find the best new restaurant in town.
Your Workspace and Hours:You will not be working in a typical office environment for your summer, you will be working behind the scenes at real restaurants, farms and markets in SF!
General work hours: Monday through Friday 9 to 5
