ORGANIZATION: Jumpstart Southern California

Session Activities
Corps Member helps Jumpstart child with puppet making to explore the reading content in more depth during session

Jumpstart recruits one time volunteers to attend our various community events to read and make crafts with children. We are looking for volunteers of all ages passionate about making a difference in children's lives, by simply reading a book! We believe in closing the achivement gap through joy, kindness, dedication, connection, and learning.

This one time event will be held for the children of Magnolia Place Preschool at the Children's Bureau in Los Angeles. A space for reading will be set up, as well as various activity stations pertaining to a certain book! Volunteers can choose to read or lead an activity.

Volunteer groups are welcome! Volunteers under 18 will need a parent signature, and volunteers under 15 will need a parent present while volunteering.

Please e-mail jasmin.salas@jstart.org with any questions or concerns. Thank you!

About Jumpstart Southern California

Location:

1625 W Olympic Blvd. Ste. 1050, Los Angeles, CA 90015, US

Mission Statement

Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Description

Each year, one third of America's children arrive on their first day of school without the skills necessary to succeed at grade level. When children begin behind their peers, catching up, especially without additional assistance, is difficult and unlikely. By focusing on enriching the education of preschool students from disadvantaged communities, Jumpstart is making sure every child has a chance at success. Jumpstart is a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring children to learn, adults to teach, families to get involved, and communities to progress together.
