ORGANIZATION: Keiro Northwest

Nikkei Manor, a facility of Keiro Northwest, is seeking a volunteer Landscaping Consultant who will design landscape upgrades for the parking strips surrounding its parking lot. These upgrades should provide an attractive curb appeal for the property and utilize plants that are native to the area and/or represent the Asian cultures served in the community without increasing and/or supporting nuisance behavior in the neighborhood.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Design a sustainable landscape for the parking strips surrounding the Nikkei Manor parking lot
* Work with the Facilities Supervisor to determine parameters for appropriate plants / features
* Create an appropriate budget (including estimated timeline) for implementing the project
* Investigate the requirements for projects within the Special Review District and create a plan to address them
* Create an "upkeep manual" for the project, including any major interventions required to keep it healthy and attractive in the future


Qualifications/ Requirements:
* Landscape experience, required
* Landscape Architecture experience or degree, preferred
* Experience with Special Review Districts, desirable
* Well-versed in native Pacific Northwest plants as well as plants that "naturalize" in the Pacific Northwest
* Well-versed in Asian cultures (Japanese culture familiarity preferred), especially regarding the symbolism of specific plants
* Knowledge of irrigation systems
* Able to self-initiate and work unsupervised
* Able to communicate clearly in speaking and writing English
* Able to draw landscape diagrams that can be used by professional landscapers to implement the landscape project
* Able to put together a budget based on the proposed landscape project
* Able to research / anticipate requirements of the Special Review District and incorporate into the project, including any required presentation materials
