Universal Temple of the arts (UTA) has provided free supplemental artistic, cultural and academic education to the Staten Island community for nearly four decades. Our funding has been drastically cut over the last ten years and we are now faced with barely having enough funding to keep our doors open to the under-served youth population that regularly rely upon our center for its services, which assist them in growing both scholastically and socially.

We are in IMMEDIATE need of experienced proposal writers who can assist us in researching available programmatic and operational funding opportunities. Naturally, as this is a volunteer situation, research and proposals can be completed whenever it best suits your schedule as long as deadlines for proposal submission are met. Your level of commitment can be as much or as little as you can give. All help will be greatly appreciated.

This is a virtual opportunity so although we are based in Staten Island, NY, we are seeking volunteers from all parts of the country as research, oposal writing and proposal review can be done via internet, fax and phone.

UTA offers a very dynamic, fun and friendly experience to all those associated with our organization. If you come on board with us, you are sure to be heard, appreciated and make a difference!!!

If interested, please email us at templeofthearts@hotmail.com or call us at 718-273-5610.

I thank you in advance for your interest and reply.

All the Best!!!

Mission Statement

Universal Temple of the Arts (UTA) strives to quicken the creative spirit in the individual and foster brotherly love. Through a unique blend of artistic, educational, cultural and civic programs, UTA cultivates the scholastic and social development of underserved youth through exposure to opportunities that are not commonly accessed by this population. All UTA programs are skillfully designed to enhance the artistic and academic performance of our students. Our commitment to excellence is exemplified by utilizing accomplished artist-educators of varied disciplines to nurture the talents of our students.

Description

History: Located in Staten Island?s New Brighton area, UTA was founded in 1967 by Maurice Phillips, Artist/Teacher/Philosopher, and a group of young artists, including the organization?s current Executive/Artistic Director. UTA set out to provide life enrichment programs to Staten Island?s urban, low-socio economic communities. The population that UTA serves is primarily African-Americans and Latinos between the ages of six and twenty-one. The participants who acccess UTA?s services are often from single-parent households with low to moderate income levels. UTA focuses on this population in an effort to help them build strong intellectual and creative foundations upon which their promising futures can be established.

Principal Activities: During UTA?s nearly forty-year history, the organization has upheld our mission by offering a unique blend of artistic, cultural, social and academic programs. These offerings include: art, music, dance, sewing, multicultural studies, computer literacy classes focusing on graphic-design and software programs, entrepreneurial training, conflict resolution, and yoga for youth.
