Volunteers are needed to help teach evening classes at Focus: HOPE's Machinist Training Institute ( MTI).
Volunteer Description:
4 Volunteers to teach in a co-teaching environment, which will work within the Workforce Development and Education program to teach classes in Blueprint Reading and Electrical Schematics. Course content will be provided during orientation.
Volunteer Hours:
Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 5:30pm-9:00pm at Focus: HOPE's MTI Building.
The program begins on Monday May22nd and ends August 14th, however you only need blueprint & schematics instructors beginning in July.
Time line:
May- June: Recruitment period
July 10-21: Orientation & course prep
July 24-28: 1 week Blueprint course (2 volunteers)
July 31-Aug 4: 1 week Schematics course (2 volunteers)
These dates are subject to change.
Desired Skills:
- Passion for or background experience in teaching
- Teachable knowledge of blue print reading or electrical schematics
- Able to collaborate with others

Focus: HOPE is a human service organization. Founded in 1968 in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riots by Father Willam T. Cunningham (1930-1997) and co-founder Eleanor M. Josaitis (1931-2011), Focus: HOPE unites a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial harmony. Over the years, Focus: HOPE has initiated practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. Answers can be found in Focus: HOPE's technology training programs, educational and corporate partnerships, and food programs.
