Mission Statement

To improve the learning environment in primary schools by holistically creating world-class basic education systems to the community.

Description

Globally, the West African nation of West Africa, accounts for the largest number of Out-Of-School-Children (OOSC), i.e. 10.5 million children; representing 14 percent of the 70 million OOSC children globally (UNESCO Institute for Statistics).

Nigeria also sits on the verge of a demographic explosion. Soon one-in- eight children born on this planet will be a Nigerian (United Nations 2012). Thus the quality of education in this region will be a key factor in making these demographics an extraordinary opportunity or a terrible threat.

Oando Foundation US a non-for profit and a non-governmental organization that focuses on education development in Nigeria was established as a charity in 2012, driven by the vision to tackle these issues by creating a sustainable and successful educational system in that Nation that educates and empowers every child.

Prevalent barriers to education in Nigeria include limited access partly due to poverty, child labor, quality and capacity of education, economic hardship, early child marriage (for girls) and the lack of infrastructure. These significant challenges triggered the Foundation’s focus on education.

In a bid to address these issues and meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on quality education, the Foundation designed a multifaceted, holistic, and responsive approach i.e. The Adopt-A-School-Initiative (AASI) programme. This is an innovative Public-Private Partnership (PPP) designed to improve the deplorable state of public early learning centers and primary schools in Nigeria.
