Food Shift is looking for passionate and committed volunteers for The Food Shift Kitchen, located at the Alameda Point Collaborative. Our kitchen transforms surplus produce into delicious food for the Alameda Food Bank, City Team Ministries, and various events. Volunteers assist with everything from sorting, cleaning, cutting, peeling, zesting, and packaging meals. Learn and practice valuable knife skills and kitchen safety protocols under the direction of trained Food Shift culinary team members. No prior kitchen prep experience is necessary.
Volunteers must be 12 years or older. Come dressed comfortably with closed-toed, non-slip shoes. No prior kitchen prep experience is necessary.
Our kitchen is open Tuesday-Thursday: 9am - 2pm
*Shifts are ~3.5 hrs and we provide a delicious vegetarian meal to enjoy with the team.

Description
At Food Shift, we believe food alone cannot solve hunger. Food Shift is utilizing opportunities in the food system to address the intersecting issues of climate change, job and economic security, and community health.
Our model focuses on rescuing surplus food that would otherwise waste away in landfills and utilize it to fuel our social enterprise kitchen. We address food insecurity and joblessness in our community through our culinary training, food recovery programs and social enterprise kitchen, which are designed for those facing high barriers to employment.
