This part time (8 hours/week) unpaid internship is an exciting opportunity to develop and sustain community building and fundraising skills in a health agency. The Young Professional’s Advancement Intern will be a liaison between the LGBTQ*+ community and the agency, promoting the overall mission of APLA Health through outreach, social events and fundraising. The intern will also have the opportunity to learn about such topics as fundraising, community building and public health from a team of professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Work in tandem with Annual Giving Manager to create and deploy social and fundraising programs for young professional’s group (League of Emerging Health Activists)

  • Post to social media weekly on behalf of LEHA to advance mission in strategic fashion

  • Recruit, train and cultivate volunteers

  • work at various events on behalf of LEHA and manage volunteers

  • work with the Advancement department on an as-needed basis for related projects and tasks

Requirements

  • knowledge of popular social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, MeetUp, Twitter), scheduling software and ability to read metrics results

  • positive, friendly, outgoing, self starter

  • knowledge of Los Angeles County LGBTQ*+ community

APLA Health’s mission is to achieve health care equity and promote well-being for the LGBT and other underserved communities and people living with and affected by HIV. We are a nonprofit, federally qualified health center serving more than 14,000 people annually. We provide 20 different services from 15 locations throughout Los Angeles County, including: medical, dental, and behavioral health care; PrEP counseling and management; health education and HIV prevention; and STD screening and treatment. For people living with HIV, we offer housing support; benefits counseling; home health care; and the Vance North Necessities of Life Program food pantries; among several other critically needed services. Additionally, we are leaders in advocating for policy and legislation that positively impacts the LGBT and HIV communities, provide capacity-building assistance to health departments across the country, and conduct community-based research on issues affecting the communities we serve.
