Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Save The Bay

  • 1 person is interested

The Swim is Save The Bay’s largest annual fundraiser, exemplifying our vision that everyone has the right to a swimmable, fishable, healthy, and accessible Bay. 500 swimmers and nearly 200 kayakers traverse 1.7 miles from Newport to Jamestown to raise money and awareness for Save The Bay. Volunteers are needed to support this event!

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT VOLUNTEERING AT THE SWIM:

There are two locations, each with several different roles: the starting line at the Newport Naval Base, and the finish line at Potter Cove in Jamestown. See MAP. The Swim proceeds rain or shine; only fog or unsafe nautical conditions would cancel the event. Many different roles are available. If you have questions or are not sure which volunteer role is right for you, contact July Lewis.

NEWPORT VOLUNTEERING is 5:45 AM-10 AM unless otherwise noted.

JAMESTOWN VOLUNTEERING is 7 AM - 12:15 AM unless otherwise noted.

JAMESTOWN PARTY TENT VOLUNTEERING is 7:30 AM-1 PM.

We have many volunteer roles at The Swim! To view the full list, visit the Swim Volunteer Page.

About Save The Bay

Location:

100 Save the Bay Drive, Providence, RI 02905, US

Mission Statement

Save The Bay protects, restores and improves the ecological health of the Narragansett Bay region, including its watershed and adjacent coastal waters, through an ecosystem-based approach to environmental action; defends the right of the public to use and enjoy the Bay and its surrounding waters; and fosters an ethic of environmental stewardship among people who live in or visit the Narragansett Bay region.

Description

Save The Bay was founded on the community's desire to protect our most precious resource - Narragansett Bay. To do that, Save The Bay has focused on the development of a committed constituency for the Bay. Children and adults throughout this region have learned the tremendous value the Bay brings to our economy, our environment and our quality of life.

In defense of Narragansett Bay and its watershed, Save The Bay has watched over the activities and programs of the government and the citizenry that degrade the environmental quality of the Bay, basin, and watershed. Save The Bay provides educational opportunities for children and adults to explore the Bay, fostering a understanding and a sense of personal responsibility for the resource.
