Our Volunteer Intern ($tipend available for the right person) will work Summer festivals and French Markets with us: setting up, merchandizing, handling on-site retail sales and helping to re-pack our truck. These events are outdoors in super fun locations in Chicago neighborhoods, mostly on weekends from May through November.

Sit in on our buying meetings and help identify our product mix to fit each festival.

If you have an hour or two a week to spend researching potential venues for us to take a truck to next year, we would love to have your help with that as well!! Can you find us a coffee shop or a brewpub that would like to host a Pop Up store? We welcome creative thinkers!

We’re very flexible with hours; we’ll work our schedule around yours.

Because you may be called upon to drive a cargo van, Interns who are 21+ will be considered first.

Mission Statement

To create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our community through long-term fair trading relationships.

Description

Ten Thousand Villages-Evanston, is a Fair Trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. We feature products from more than 130 artisan groups in 38 countries.

We are part of a network of over 70 stores in the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent 70 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees Fair Trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade
