Help make a difference for a child in your community: help us deliver beds to kids who have recently moved into permanent housing!
This is a great opportunity for: families with small children, individuals and teams, including youth groups and adults. Delivering beds and Dream Kits is a hands-on outreach opportunity that allows volunteers to meet and directly impact families who have experienced homelessness. Note: to keep volunteers and families safe, we are currently only welcoming volunteer groups from one household at a time.
Volunteer time slots: Fridays from 9:00 am-11:30 am & Saturdays from 9:00 am -11:30 am.
What our volunteers do: First, you'll help My Very Own Bed staff assemble Dream Kits (sheets, blanket, pillow, book, & stuffed animal) to go with each bed. Then you'll follow our delivery van in your own vehicle, and help deliver beds to 2-4 families' homes around the Twin Cities. At each home, we'll carry mattresses, frames and Dream Kits from the truck into the home. This is a wonderful opportunity for families with kids- we have the kids assemble the Dream Kits and then they're put in charge in carrying the Dream Kits into the families' homes.
Please contact us at info@myveryownbed.org to schedule dates.
Covid precautions: Volunteers and staff must all wear masks, and stay six feet away from others outside your family/volunteer group. We provide hand sanitizer during the Dream Kit building process if requested. You are invited to participate in bed deliveries at whatever level you are comfortable with; it is not necessary to enter any homes if you'd prefer to stay outside.
Accessibility: For kids and volunteers who cannot/don't want to lift 50+ pounds, you are invited to carry Dream Kits rather than mattresses/bedframes. There is a gender neutral restroom in our building.

Mission Statement
Provides new beds and linens to children of families who have recently secured stable housing
Description
My Very Own Bed was created to help families get one step closer to thriving in their new homes. By providing new beds and linens to kids who need them, we’re making those new homes more livable and restful. By making sure the beds and linens are new, we’re giving kids and families something all their own - not a hand-me-down. Our bed sets include a twin mattress and box spring, along with a Dream Kit that includes sheets, a pillow, and a stuffed animal. We make it easy on families by managing every step of the delivery, from transporting the beds to setting them up in each child’s room.
