A USA Track & Field Certified flat course through residential streets in downtown Des Plaines, IL, with proceeds benefitting the Des Plaines Park District Scholarship Funds. Gear check, water available throughout, and refreshments provided at the finish. Chip timed. Medals are awarded to the overall male and female winners, and to the first, second and third place male and female winners in various age groups.
The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks is co-sponsoring this event. Volunteers are needed throughout the course to direct traffic, distribute gear, water and refreshments. Student volunteers will earn service hours. Student volunteers must be at least 14 years. Larger groups are encouraged to volunteer together, so this is a great opportunity for scouting or other youth groups, social clubs, or teams to register and build their team spirit!

The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks' mission is to: Promote parks, recreational and cultural activities, and a healthier lifestyle for the citizens of Des Plaines by providing and administering scholarships for residents to participate in a variety of Park District activities.
Description
As a 501 (c)(3) non-profit we:
- Organize events to raise funds for scholarships to support the youth of the Des Plaines Park District
- Support the efforts of the Des Plaines Park District as volunteers at their events
- Stimulate and further public interest in parks and recreation, and the preservation of park and recreational resources
- Educate the citizens of Des Plaines Park District upon the value of quality parks and recreational/conservative services
