Our annual 5k run/walk is on June 3rd. The 5k trail meanders through Ninigret Park in Charlestown - some parts of the trail are through wooded areas, so we are in need of volunteers to stand at intersections and turns to guide the runners/walkers along the way. The race starts at 11am and most people are finished by 12:30. We could also use some help with set up and take down, but the most important tasks for volunteers will be the trail guides, so if you can only help from 11-1, that is perfectly fine! You will need to walk to your designated spot on the trail and will need to be able to stand in that spot for the duration of the race, so please take that into consideration.

Please contact us if you are interested. Thank you!

Mission Statement

Frosty Drew Memorial Fund, Inc: Enlighten, discover, inspire- through education and research- knowledge about science, the night sky, and the universe.

Description

Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center is Southern New England's gateway to the Milky Way! We are located at one of the darkest sites in Southern New England where thousands of stars are visible overhead.

Frosty Drew, our namesake, was interested in a wide range of ecological and conservation activities, particularly along Rhode Island's beautiful shores. As a child, Frosty contracted polio, weakening him through life and contributing to his death at the age of 28.

Our programs focus on education of both children and adults:

1) Weekly Stargazing Nights events

2) Themed events focused on meteor showers, observing the Milky Way, and other celestial events.

3) School field trips focusing on astronomy, conservation, astrophysics, and the night sky.

4) BSA scouting field trips focused on astronomy badge achievement.
