ORGANIZATION: Long Beach Senior Squadron 150 - Civil Air Patrol

  • 4 people are interested

The Squadrons of San Diego Group 8 are seeking volunteer Private Pilots to become part of our all-volunteer member supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization chartered by Congress to be the US Air Force Auxiliary.

If you’re a pilot, CAP has plenty of opportunities for you. CAP owns the largest fleet of single-engine piston aircraft in the nation, primarily Cessna 172s and 182s, and CAP pilots are able to fly those planes to perform CAP missions in service to their local communities.

CAP pilots fly reconnaissance missions for homeland security, search and rescue, disaster relief, and even counterdrug operations at the request of government or law enforcement agencies. They sometimes transport medical personnel and supplies and blood and live tissue. In times of disaster, they assess damage and transport emergency personnel from site to site. When not flying traditional emergency missions, cadet orientation pilots fly orientation rides for cadets and teachers while also maintaining their own proficiency.

The Civil Air Patrol’s aircraft are located at strategic locations throughout the nation to be readily available when missions arise. CAP members maintain these aircraft at the highest levels of safety and efficiency and have access to specialists at CAP National headquarters for maintenance, safety and training questions.

As a CAP pilot, you perform some of the organizations’ most important work. CAP is also a great place for you to meet and work with people who share your interest in flying and want to use their skills in a meaningful way.

The following San Diego Group 8 Squadrons are constantly training and preparing their members for the skills necessary to provide emergency services to the public in a time of need:

San Diego Squadron 57 meets the first three Wednesdays of the month at 7:00 pm at the Gillespie Field Admin/Terminal Building.

Skyhawk Composite Squadron 47 meets Tuesday evening's at 6:45 pm at the U.S. Army Reserve Center located in the 21 Area (Camp Del Mar) of Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, California.

Fallbrook Squadron 87 meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 7pm except November and December when we meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays to accommodate holiday observances at the Fallbrook Volunteer Fire Department located at 231 East Hawthorn, Fallbrook, CA.

We invite and welcome you to be our guest for an evening at one of our weekly squadron meetings. When you arrive, one of our members will give you a tour of CAP. You'll get a chance to meet our members who will discuss the organization and provide you with informational pamphlets and accompany you for the evening to answer any questions you might have about the Civil Air Patrol.

While the central focal point of our effort is training and preparation of aircrew for the California Wing fleet, there are many roles available to non-flying members such as radio communications, logistics, planning, and mission staff participation.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills, people, and communication skills.
  • Aged 18 or older.
  • Willingness to become a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Enthusiasm for community service.

Veterans and disabled veterans are encouraged to join.
