Mission Statement

New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School is an open-admission public charter school that prepares all students for college admissions and successful careers. Sci High provides a rigorous high school curriculum with an emphasis in science and mathematics in a supportive environment of learning and respect that prepares students to make informed choices about post-secondary pursuits.

Description

The New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School (Sci High) is an open

enrollment, comprehensive high school serving 415 students in grades 9-12. The school is

authorized by the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and has two key goals: that all students

will complete a rigorous, college-ready curriculum and that the four-year course of study will

have an intense focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Begun as a half-

day program by professors from Tulane and Southern and a group of local business leaders in

1992, Sci High was originally located on Delgado’s campus. Since becoming a full day charter

school in 2006, Sci High has been located at Allen Elementary in Uptown. The Advocates, Sci

High’s volunteer governing board, are working with OPSB and community members to create a

new school facility in the BioDistrict. Additionally, Sci High’s STEM curriculum is an attempt

to meet the growing demand for the science, technology, and medical professionals necessary to

sustain and grown New Orleans’ economy. Sci High is committed to wrap-around social and

health services to build character and to establish healthy lifestyles. We also believe deeply in

the value of offering arts and athletics opportunities to our young people.
