"CHARITY CRAFT FAIR FOR VALENTINE'S DAY"
We have volunteer opportunities beginning now leading up the the craft fair on February 13th, the day before Valentine's.
Hosted by, The Sankofa Center, an arts-based HIV Charity based in Sunnyvale that works in Africa to fight HIV/AIDS. The organization maintains a vibrant style line made by the HIV charity in Africa and benefiting HIV prevention projects locally & globally. The Craft Fair will be a curated showcase of local artist ranging from jewelry, gift, clothing, accessories, and skin care with items making the perfect gift for celebrating "love".
Description/Timeline of Opportunities:
1. Crafter Applicants- (ongoing till capacity) Submit photos of your artistry for selection of pieces to be curated at the event, your background and bio, to volunteers@thesankofacenter.org, type: Artist for Craft Fair, in the subject
2. Sort-a-thoner- ( Feb. 8th between 11:30am and 5 pm ). Volunteers will help sort handmade craft merchandise selected for the event. Volunteers get 20% off any Sankofa item they want to keep! RSVP via Email to: volunteers@thesankofacenter.org, with the heading "Sort-a-thon", and detail your availability and we will send further directions.
3. Ambassadors- ( ongoing till event day) Ambassadors are responsible helping create digital flyers for the Craft Fair and virtually distributing them to area businesses to promote the event. Email your time availability up until the Fair: volunteers@thesankofacenter.org, with the heading "Ambassador for Fair".
4. Craft Fair Helpers- ( Feb 13th 8am-6:30pm) Volunteers interact with Fair goers and help with merchandising items while making new friends, warehousing, volunteer management. We are asking for a 3 hour minimum time commitment. Craft Fair Helpers also get 20% off any Sankofa items they want to keep for Valentine's Day. Email: volunteers@thesankofacenter.org with the subject heading " Craft Fair Helper" and detail your time slot availability and we will coordinate with you.

Mission Statement
At The Sankofa Center we empower people to wipe out HIV/AIDS in our lifetime. We do this through utilizing traditional African dance, music, and drama to educate people of all ages in Ghana. Through the arts we foster healthy behaviors to prevent, detect, and treat HIV/AIDS. We provide free counseling, rapid HIV testing, and connections to local community resources. Our efforts are supported through a line of products that are made fairly by our cooperative in Ghana. We are here to make a difference!
Description
Sankofa is an ancient African proverb symbolized by a bird looking backwards. It asks people to revisit their past in order to correct the mistakes that may affect their future. The Sankofa Center uses the dance and music of Africa’s past to foster a healthier future and a better understanding of HIV/AIDS.

The Sankofa Center’s programming is two-fold: touring dance-dramas are aimed at educating margainalized villagers with little access to resources and information; after-school programs target youth between the ages of 13-19+.
The Sankofa Center also conducts classroom educational seminars, provides free on-the spot rapid testing, and links women, men, and youth to treatment. We have reached over 47,000 villagers and 35,000 students since 2006.
