True Friends, in partnership with Special Olympics, hosts Sports Camp at Camp Courage in Maple Lake, MN for SOMN athletes and coaches June 5-9, 2017.

Volunteers ages 16+ assist athletes during sports focused areas in the morning (bocce ball, basketball, flag football, and poly hockey). The rest of the day is filled with camp activities: tubing on Cedar Lake, picnics, rifle range, archery tag, high ropes course and zip line, beach volleyball, bonfires, and so much more!

Your job is pretty simple as a volunteer - HAVE FUN!

Volunteering at camp is a great way for you to give back to the community while gaining valuable personal skills, like

  • teamwork,
  • problem solving,
  • empathy,
  • and an understanding of diversity

...all while having fun and making lasting friendships! Your service brings our mission to life every day for the amazing individuals who come to camp.

  • Volunteers ages 16+ work with staff supporting campers in various camp activities; volunteers do not provide direct care to campers.
  • We provide in-depth training and orientation, so no previous experience with the population is required, nor expected. Although an existing love for the population is always appreciated, but a willingness to learn more is as well.
  • Meals and housing are provided at no cost - overnight supervision is provided by our volunteer coordinator separate from camper/counselor cabins.
  • Students can earn 65 service learning hours for one week of service, creating wonderful ways to learn, grow, and serve the community.
  • Sign up with friends & family!

*This is a residential volunteer opportunity. Volunteers stay on-site June 5-9.*
