This volunteer position will support, help develop, and implement a social media strategy for Food Shift. The role will involve creating content, building community through our online presence, developing brand awareness, and generating inbound traffic.
We are looking for someone who can contribute 5-10 hrs per week, with at least 5 hrs ideally in the office helping to develop content (photos, videos, stories). Long term (1yr+) committment is preferred.
Candidates should ideally have social media experience, love taking pictures and writing stories, and have a passion for sustainability issues, food justice, etc. Must be able to take initiative and work independently. Will consider a great candidate who is not local. Flexible to negotiate splitting time between multiple volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day management and development of editorial content on social media platforms, including tweets, posts, blog stories, and visuals
- Respond to inquires and interact with online followers, partners, and communities across all platforms
- Research and identify relevant stories to share with our community
- Assist in planning, writing, and managing blog and monthly eNewsletter
- Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
- Design flyers, graphics, and other visuals and memes
- Collaborate with Food Shift team on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill Required:
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and participants; knowledgeable of latest developments and understanding of how to implement
- Experience using analytical tools to draw insight and create consistent reporting
- Photography/videography and/or editing experience is a plus
- Thorough understanding of social media platforms for brands, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Google, and blogs
- Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Creativity and a willingness to experiment
- Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
- Interest in consulting, marketing, and/or media involving social networking
- Current presence on Twitter is a plus
