Canine Companions is looking for someone who is enthusiastic, extroverted, well connected in the community, organized, creative, flexible, detail oriented, passionate and a natural leader to serve as Volunteer Chapter President.

Below is a position description for the Chapter President:

President Term: One year (with option to continue)

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours a month

The president of a chapter of Canine Companions for Independence is responsible for providing leadership for the chapter, leadership teams and committees, including presiding at leadership, chapter and strategic planning meetings. The president also acts as liaison between the regional center and the chapter. S/he works with committees to ensure the attainment of chapter initiatives and goals. Specific duties include:

  • Provide leadership for the leadership team.
  • Set a vision and strategy for the direction of goals and activities for the year.
  • Develop agendas and facilitate meetings.
  • Coordinate annual strategic planning retreat and ensure chapter involvement.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to ensure an appropriate succession of officers and members occur annually.
  • Oversee the business affairs of the chapter.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for all leadership team and committee positions.
  • Work closely with the secretary/treasurer to ensure that all financial transactions are handled efficiently, ethically and effectively.
  • Develop and present the chapter budget for leadership team approval and present to the regional office.
  • Participate in regular conference calls with regional chapter presidents.
  • Take a leadership role in presenting chapter best practices as needed.
  • Communicate with regional volunteer coordinator on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Attend and participate in TEAM, the annual Volunteer Leadership Conference.
  • Work with committees to ensure the attainment of chapter initiatives and goals.
  • Meet with committee chairs as needed to provide support and counsel.
  • Assist in determining committee personnel needs.
  • Attend chapter events as able.
    • Quarterly puppy turn-In parties
    • Chapter socials
    • Graduate socials
    • Community awareness events and activities
    • Act as spokesperson for the chapter
    • Provide interviews with the media
    • Present on behalf of Canine Companions and the chapter to other organizations as needed.
