Each year, on the longest *day, Care for the Homeless and our allies take a few hours to recognize the stories of our homeless and formerly homeless neighbors. The Summer Solstice Success Celebration is an observance developed by Care for the Homeless in New York City and first held in 2014 to both celebrate success in overcoming homelessness and as an effort to de-stigmatize and humanize people experiencing homelessness in New York City.

*The actual solstice is on June 21st but, due to important advocacy work in Albany that date, we will celebrate a day later.

We are recruiting volunteers to assist with various duties at this event, including food service, set-up, break-down, etc.

About Care For the Homeless

Location:

30 East 33rd street, 5th Fl, New York, NY 10016, US

Mission Statement

Care For the Homeless fights homelessness by delivering high-quality and client-centered health care, human services and shelter to homeless individuals and families, and by advocating for policies to ameliorate, prevent and end homelessness.

Description

Care For the Homeless (CFH) serves 10,000 homeless men, women, and children annually and provides comprehensive health care at multiple sites co-located at soup kitchens, shelters, drop-in centers and street outreach programs in all 5 boroughs of NYC. Our service delivery model provides care where homeless individuals and families are receiving a variety of other services with the goal of reducing barriers to accessing high-quality health care. CFH also operates three transitional housing sites with on-site health care and is expanding shelter services in the future, ensuring a safe, supportive path to permanent housing.

In addition, CFH is committed to ending homelessness by conducting public education, research, and analysis of model programs and practices that create permanent housing opportunities, and by shaping policies to prevent future homelessness.
