Montcalm CASA

CASA volunteers are trained community members who recommend to the Court, based on facts and information gathered, the needs of a child who has been adjudicated abused and/or neglected. The CASA will monitor the case and work to assure permanency planning so that each child can fulfill his/her right to a safe, permanent home.

By donating any amount in your heart, or volunteering your time to your local CASA program. The average length of stay in the foster care system is two years, full of constant chaos and movement. Montcalm CASA aims to provide a child with a volunteer that will stand firm with them as they go through the chaos, as they seek a safe, loving home.

Areas of Responsibility

  1. Visit with the child each month
  2. Attend all court hearings
  3. Report findings to the court via a written report
  4. Ensure representation of the child's best interest
  5. Monitor case and complete required paperwork
  6. Attend initial and ongoing trainings

About Montcalm CASA

Location:

P.O. Box 925, Stanton, MI 48888, US

Mission Statement

Montcalm CASA provides a voice for abused and neglected children in the juvenile justice system by providing advocacy for their needs and ensuring a permanent.

Description

A CASA volunteer works with attorneys, social workers, school personnel, health care providers, parents and any others who are involved with the child. From the information gathered, the CASA will make recommendations to the judge as to what is in the best interest of the child. The term 'best interest' is defined as "a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible". As objective observers, they explain the legal events to the child and allow the child to express his or her own feelings, hopes, and opinions. CASA volunteers are not mentors, but advocates on behalf of children, and the child's wishes are also expressed to the court.
