Volunteer Receptionist

Purrfect Pals

Purrfect Pals provides a no-kill sanctuary, foster support, hospice care and adoption services for homeless cats. Purrfect Pals works to end overpopulation through humane education, spay/neuter programs, and permanent placement in quality homes. Founded in 1988, Purrfect Pals was originally a boarding facility for cats. Today the sanctuary is home to more than 150 cats. The sanctuary prides itself in providing space for cats with leukemia, cats with FIV, and cats with special medical and behavioral issues. The organization also adopts on average 1,500+ cats a year and provides medical care onsite.

Purrfect Pals is committed to reducing cat homelessness by accepting cats whose owners are in need of surrender help and through homeless prevention support to the general public with information and resources for a range of concerns a cat owner might have. With the completion of a new facility this spring we will have more space on-site for new volunteer opportunities. This position is among a host of additional volunteer roles that will play an important part of our future growth.

Position Overview:

The volunteer reception position will allow us to provide a more timely response to phone requests from the community and our organizational partners as well as administrative help to increase Purrfect Pal’s effectiveness. A good candidate will have a love of cats and a desire to provide friendly and helpful support to people visiting the shelter and those calling for information. They will also be willing to commit to one 3 hour shift per week or two 3 hour shifts per month (Monday - Saturday times between 8am & 5pm are available). We also ask that they commit to a minimum of four months of volunteer time due to the training that is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet people as soon as they arrive and connect them with the appropriate party
  • Answer the phone in a timely manner and direct calls to the correct offices or clinic setting
  • Provide administrative support to the Intake Coordinator and other program managers
  • Help manage food bank distribution
  • Help maintain common areas

Skills Required:

  • Great communication/people skills
  • Understanding of our adoption policies and procedures
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Microsoft Office & data entry skills are a plus

About Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary and Shelter

Location:

230 McRae Rd NE, Arlington, WA 98223, US

Mission Statement

Through placement and prevention programs, Purrfect Pals works to end cat homelessness in the Puget Sound region - Because every cat matters.

Description

Purrfect Pals was founded in 1988 by a cat lover, Kathy Centala, who took a look around at her community and saw far too many unwanted cats and kittens whose only options were, in most cases, over-crowded shelters with high euthanasia rates.

Purrfect Pals has developed a robust network of offsite adoption centers and special events. Housed in pet stores, our adoption centers are fully staffed by volunteers who care for the cats and match them up with potential adopters. We currently have eight adoption centers throughout the Puget Sound region. Our cats and kittens are available for adoption in two Petco stores, four Petsmart stores and Denny’s Pet World. Purrfect Pals currently has a team of 600+ active volunteers who help make our offsite adoption program a success.
