Make a real difference in someone's life!
Great Lakes Caring Hospice, a leading care provider in the Midwest, is looking for compassionate volunteers willing to donate their time to provide exceptional end-of-life care to local hospice patients and their families.
Volunteers are needed to visit with patients and engage them in activities such as, playing music or singing, working on a craft project or sharing a special talent, or simply providing companionship through listening, talking, or holding a hand. Volunteers can provide respite care, allowing family members to take a much-needed break.
There are also volunteer opportunities within the Great Lakes Caring office, assisting staff with mailing, filing, computer work and data entry, as well as other special projects.
Great Lakes Caring is also looking for Pet Therapy volunteers. These volunteers along with their trained pet companions visit Hospice patients in facilities. Dogs must be certified in order to visit patients.
Hours are very flexible, weekdays, evenings or weekends. Typically, we ask that you would visit your assigned patient 1-2 hours per week, or offer 1-2 hours per week of work in the office. There is a 4 hour minimum requirement per month for all of our volunteers.
Volunteers play a vital role in our ability to provide hospice services. By volunteering a few hours or days a month you can make a difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve. As a volunteer you can choose to work with hospice patients and their families or in administrative activities at the hospice office.
A person who volunteers is trained for the area in which they choose to serve and are under the direction of the hospice staff member responsible for the volunteer program.
There are two major areas in which to volunteer with different job titles within those areas.
1. Administrative/Non-Patient Care Volunteer is a person who wants to volunteer but desires no direct patient contact. They may provide administrative assistance in the hospice office. There are non-patient care volunteers who can assist with yard work, running errands and other helpful activities.
2. Patient Care Volunteer is a person who wants to volunteer directly with patients, whether it is in the patient's own home, primary care giver's home, assisted living home, nursing home or other long term care facilities.
