ORGANIZATION: The Extraordinary Gentlemen

The Extraordinary Queens Juniorettes Program helps to empower youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program uses adult volunteers (Extraordinary Queens) to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the Extraordinary Queens can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for meeting with the EQJA for the agreed-upon time frame

(i.e., often weekly meetings for at least one year)

  • Act as a resource and guide
  • Work closely with agency staff through phone contact, personal conferences and group meetings
  • Serve as an example/role model
  • Accept and relate to youth who may not share the volunteer’s lifestyle and values
  • Respect the mentee’s right to self-determination and independence

Time Commitment

  • Make a one-year commitment
  • Spend a minimum of eight hours per month one-to-one with a mentee
  • Communicate with the mentee weekly
  • Attend optional mentor/mentee group events, mentor support groups,

and program recognition events

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be interested in working with young people
  • Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Be willing to complete the application and screening process
  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
  • Attend Extraordinary Gentlemen training sessions as prescribed
  • Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
  • Have access to an automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record
  • Have a clean criminal history
  • Not use illicit drugs
  • Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner

Matching Process:

Matches will be made on the basis of interests, skills, background, knowledge and temperament of both the young person and the Extraordinary Queen.

The Extraordinary Gentlemen JR’s Academy

To educate, inspire, and enable young men to operate in the confidence of a gentleman while embracing their ability to serve and empower their family, friends, and communities.

The Extraordinary Gentlemen JR’s Academy seeks to develop leaders, promote lifetime brotherhood and spiritual development, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. The EGJA will focus on 7 principles: Truth/Honesty, Righteousness, Justice, Harmony/Order, Wisdom, Integrity, and Consciousness. The EGJA will host sessions led by the Extraordinary Gentlemen Leadership Team. Sessions will provide opportunities to learn and develop skill sets exhibited by competent leaders. Sessions will cover a variety of topics that are the underline principles for becoming a true gentleman and a leader within the community.
