Ani-Meals is a program that helps our Meals on Wheels (MOW) clients keep their beloved pets healthy. Those receiving home delivered meals have a number of things in common. They are often at nutritional risk and may spend most of their time in relative isolation. One coping strategy that relieves loneliness and improves engagement is the companionship of a pet. The need to feed a dog or cat can be the downside of this relationship. An animal can literally eat in to the food resources of already vulnerable people.

To keep both pet and people healthy, we deliver dry and canned pet food for each animal once a month. We try to have the pet food ready for delivery by the end of the month and it can be delivered during the weekend or whatever day works for the volunteer. We supply a list of clients with addresses and phone numbers so you can let them know when you will be delivering. Ani-Meal deliveries also provide additional contact to relieve isolation. Families are encouraged to volunteer together.

About Community Emergency Service

Mission Statement

Community Emergency Service transforms lives by serving neighbors, sharing resources and becoming community - a place where people come hungry and leave hopeful.

Description

Community Emergency Service is a multi-service non-profit organization that runs a number of food based assistance programs for Minneapolis residents. Our main programs include: Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels, Home Delivery, Bonus Friday Distribution, and East African Food Distribution.

CES is located within one of the most diverse, densely populated neighborhoods in Minneapolis; over 20,000 people live within its boundaries. 46% of families living in the Phillips neighborhood are below the federal poverty level.

At CES, we strive to serve all our neighbors in need without distinction or test. We invite support from volunteers and donors and are open to collaboration with other agencies, regardless of religious affiliation.

Will you help us move people from hunger to hope?
