ALearn collaborates with the schools to provide *free* summer programming to underserved middle school and high school students. ALearn's programs provide academic help in math, improve students' confidence in their ability to learn and expose students to topics related to going to college. The program aims to inspire kids to want to go to college and to give them the knowledge, the tools, and the mindset to get on a college path.
We want to make sure we serve as many students as we can this year.
Volunteer event outline:
1. Please join us to get a quick overview of what we do.
2. Help us call students' families to let them know about the programs available to their children.
3. Encourage them to register for our programming.
4. FOOD Provided (free): PIZZA ! or sandwitch SUBS !
We especially need volunteers who speak Spanish or Vietnamese!

Alearn Program:
ALearn was founded in 2007 with the goal of building the skills, knowledge and confidence that students from underrepresented backgrounds need to succeed in college-track classes. Our Common Core Math, College Readiness, and Growth Mindset programs increase achievement and transforming student’s own identify and their perceptions of their future. Since 2007, ALearn has served over 9,200 students in Silicon Valley.
Our teachers apply what they learn at Professional Development training in their non-ALearn classrooms, reaching over 7,500 additional students in 2016 alone. We are contributing to the teacher pipeline, with 57% of our teaching assistants aspiring to become teachers.

ALearn's mission is to deliver high-quality math and college readiness programs to low-income, middle school students to prepare them for the "college track" in high school. In short, we aspire to put underserved youth on the path to academic success. Our programs help to close the "achievement gap" of at-risk youth in our area and to encourage them to prepare for high-demand 21st century jobs that provide a path out of poverty.
Description
We are a 501(3)c non-profit in Silicon Valley, helping low-income, underserved student achieve math proficiency and college readiness. Since 2008, we have served close to 8000 students in the neediest schools of the Bay Area. Our summer programs supplement the school year for low-income students who might have otherwise encountered "summer learning loss" not experienced by their higher income peers who are more readily able to attend summer camps. Our after-school programs supplement the school day and give struggling students the one-on-one support from a teacher and aid. Together with schools, community partners and donors, we strive to close the opportunity gap for low-income underserved students in Silicon Valley.
