Orange you excited to volunteer?
Help to sustain the development of Fresh MARTA Market by becoming a Produce Prep Volunteer! This shift occurs every Tuesday and Thursday from 9a-12p.
This project is building upon the successful "Fresh MARTA Market" pilot that launched in 2015 which has now expanded to 4 stations: West End, Five Points, College Park and HE Holmes. Community partner Organix Matters with the support of Food Oasis/Atlanta Community Food Bank, Community Farmers Market and the Southwest Atlanta Growers Cooperative will host weekly produce markets that include fresh produce from local farms that people can purchase at an affordable price! The market also offers 2 for 1 SNAP/EBT options to market goers.
Volunteer Tasks:
Wash and package produce to be sold at the markets
Place price tags and produce in appropriate bins
Prepare ice packs and coolers for market
Pre-load carts and van with equipment for transport to market
Skills Needed:
Ability to lift 20-40lb produce crates
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Produce/nutrition knowledge is a plus but not required

Mission Statement
Our mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. While our core work is food distribution, our efforts extend far beyond that. Our mission is lived out every day by engaging, educating and empowering both people in need and those who want to help. From volunteering your time to assisting people in finding economic security, the Food Bank covers a wide range of opportunities for people to learn and get involved.
Description
We utilize more than 1,700 volunteers a month, over 150 staff members, a large fleet of trucks and the largest food banking facility in the United States to procure and distribute food and grocery items received from hundreds of donors. Our donors include manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, brokers, restaurants, food drives, farmers and individuals. The product is easily accessed by our partner agencies. They place their orders online and arrange for pick up or delivery. Once the food arrives at the agency, it is provided to families and individuals in need.
