Orange you excited to volunteer!

Super fun, hands on opportunity to provide communities with many transit-reliant individuals, the chance to purchase fresh, affordable produce right at the MARTA Five Points Train Station!!

This project is building upon the successful "Fresh MARTA Market" pilot that launched in 2015 which has now expanded to 4 stations: West End, Five Points, College Park and HE Holmes. Community partner Organix Matters with the support of Food Oasis/Atlanta Community Food Bank, Community Farmers Market and the Southwest Atlanta Growers Cooperative will host weekly produce markets that include fresh produce from local farms. The market also offers 2 for 1 SNAP/EBT options to market goers.

Volunteers help to run the market by:

  • Setting up the market at the beginning of the shift.

  • Greeting market goers and provide them with shopping bags.

  • Counting attendees entering market with hand counter.

  • Providing market goers with information on market and water as requested.

  • Maintaining a clean market area.

  • Requesting new market goers to complete market survey

  • Aiding cashier in check-out procedures such as writing produce receipts and bagging produce for customers.

  • Breaking down the market at the end of the shift.

Skills needed:

  • Ability to lift 20-40 lbs. produce crates

  • Ability to stand for long periods

  • Produce/Nutrition knowledge is a plus but definitely is not mandatory

Time: Every Friday from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM! Sign up to volunteer at:

Mission Statement

Our mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. While our core work is food distribution, our efforts extend far beyond that. Our mission is lived out every day by engaging, educating and empowering both people in need and those who want to help. From volunteering your time to assisting people in finding economic security, the Food Bank covers a wide range of opportunities for people to learn and get involved.

Description

We utilize more than 1,700 volunteers a month, over 150 staff members, a large fleet of trucks and the largest food banking facility in the United States to procure and distribute food and grocery items received from hundreds of donors. Our donors include manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, brokers, restaurants, food drives, farmers and individuals. The product is easily accessed by our partner agencies. They place their orders online and arrange for pick up or delivery. Once the food arrives at the agency, it is provided to families and individuals in need.
