Military Mental Health Support

ORGANIZATION: GIVE AN HOUR NONPROFIT CORPORATION

Give an Hour (tm) is a national nonprofit that provides no cost mental health counseling through a network of mental health professionals across the nation who volunteer one hour per week for one year. Currently, our services are available to military and their loved one. Because of the stigma associated with mental health issues, and for fear of jeopardizing their career, veterans who suffer from depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress often avoid mental health treatment services offered by the military. By providing separate services, Give an Hour offers an essential option for men and women who might otherwise fail to seek appropriate mental health care.

What does being a Give an Hour Provider mean?

Volunteer mental health professionals in Give an Hour’s network have simply opted to sign up on our website as ready and available to assist someone when the need arises. Not all mental health professionals will have a client all year. Many different types of providers sign up to work with GAH. Providers commit to set aside one session per week for one year for a free client. By signing up, providers are making a statement to our nation’s military; mental health care professionals care about their wellbeing.

In addition to direct counseling, Give an Hour’s network of volunteer professionals are working to reduce the stigma associated with mental health treatment by participating in and leading education, training, and outreach efforts in schools and communities. GAH's Campaign to Change Direction has created a common language that allows us to recognize five key signs of emotional suffering in ourselves and others and encourages us to care for our mental well-being and the mental well- being of others.

For questions regarding becoming a provider, please email jgrove@giveanhour.org. The commitment is flexible and Give an Hour works with you to ensure you are receiving the information, training and tools to be successful!

We provide access to FREE continuing education, FREE distance therapy platforms, FREE listings on major referral sites such as HelpPro, FREE and DISCOUNTED tools such as Therapy Notes, and Mobile Therapy. We have clinicians on staff to help connect you to additional opportunities as they arise.
