ORGANIZATION: Marion Polk Food Share

The Cooking Matters at the Store (CMATS) Facilitator is responsible for Facilitating tours of grocery stores while promoting healthy eating on a budget. Using the CMATS booklet as a guide, the Facilitator guides groups of one to five individuals through a grocery store to better familiarize participants with the accessibility of food on a budget. The different topics the Facilitator will cover are:
-- MyPlate (a national program designed to encourage building healthy eating habits),
-- The benefits of Fresh/Frozen/Canned fruits and vegetables,
-- Defining what unit pricing is,
-- Choosing low fat dairy & meat, and identifying whole grains.

The Facilitator will encourage the following environment for learning:
-- A positive environment where participants can learn from each other.
-- Challenge by choice, meeting participants where they are at in their own journey to eating healthy and encourage little changes that work for them and their family.

At the end of the tour, the Facilitator will explain the "$10 Challenge." Participants will be asked to find a meal that fits the MyPlate guidelines - whole grains, fruit, vegetable, healthy dairy and protein choice all for under $10. The Facilitator will distribute and collect before and after surveys to evaluate participants' learning, and distribute $10 gift cards and reusable bags.
