Special Events Volunteer

ORGANIZATION: Heartland CARES, Inc.

Commitment: 2-4 hours whenever you sign up for a special event. Shifts, days, and times will vary based on event specifications.

Report to: Volunteer coordinator or designated staff.

Basic Function and Purpose: Help with special events, especially in development and community outreach. Provide information about HCI and assist in development to continue operations and client care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Duties and responsibilities will vary by event, some examples may include:
* Set up and break down of event
* Serving food and beverages
* Providing information about the event and HCI to attendees
* Any other duties assigned by HCI staff as required by the event
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Comfortable with high visibility at public events.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills
* Willingness to learn basic knowledge about HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS prevention.
* Comfortable talking about HIV/AIDS and HCI’s mission
* Events experience a plus
* Comfortable working with people from various backgrounds and identities

Heartland CARES, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive, client-centered, quality health care, support services, prevention education, and HIV testing. Quality health care is provided to persons living with HIV/AIDS, support services are provided to clients and their families, and prevention education and testing are provided to clients, their families, and the community at large. Within the community, we strive to prevent new infections and reduce the stigma associated with this disease by promoting awareness, acceptance, and equality.

Heartland CARES, Inc. began in 1996 as a client-managed consortium dedicated to developing a regional system of HIV services, and clients still play an integral role in the organization. Services at Heartland CARES, Inc. are provided to all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or ability to pay.
