Truly Thrive is seeking a virtual communications intern to support the organization’s communications efforts, including working with the team to on projects across the organization. Interns at Truly Thrive have the opportunity to provide significant support to our work we and learn what it’s like to work in a fun, fast-paced and challenging environment. The successful candidate will have strong leadership ability, some related internship experience, and be a curious, proactive, high-achieving student.

Primary Responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with the Communications team on integrated execution of materials and channels for advocacy, fundraising, recruitment of partners, and program participant engagement


Help to build strategy to acquire and retain website visitors and social media followers, and grow our email list with attention to diversifying our audiences around race, gender, and interest area


Implement social media strategy across multiple channels and multiple target audiences


Align social campaigns with organizational brand strategy, and create social media outreach around fundraising and messaging/awareness campaigns and special events

Work closely with communications staff to create regular, interactive, and dynamic content across various platforms, including writing, posts, graphics, videos, and blogs, resulting in increased engagement with target audiences


Measure, track, and report on the organization's social media presence, and learn from the data to grow our digital reach and engagement on existing and new channels


Identify trending topics in the press, social media, and popular culture relevant to Truly Thrive and tap into them to build brand awareness


Maintain an organized, searchable, and highly usable digital media asset library of photo, video, and audio files. Acquire new media assets by collaborating with professional photographers and partners in the field


Help to train Truly Thrive partners and staff on successful management of local social media channels and blogging


Provide additional help as needed on all communications projects

Skills of the Ideal Candidate:
2-4 years experience with digital communications, social media and website management


Experience managing a brand's social media presence across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram


Experience with Wordpress and/or basic HTML/CSS coding and troubleshooting


Experience with SEO, Google AdWords and an understanding of online measurement platforms and tools


Strong writing and editing skills; ability to produce original, clear, concise content for both web and print within tight deadlines; attention to detail


Intellectual curiosity about, understanding of and enthusiasm for the work of Truly Thrive, with an interest in education reform, positive youth development, and/or public policy


Ability to work independently and as part of a very collaborative team


Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines


Knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite a plus


Experience with and interest in inclusive, equitable communications that increase the diversity of our audiences

A central tenet of our work is dismantling the institutional and systemic inequities that disproportionately impact youth of color from low-income and rural backgrounds.
