PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) is launching the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign (HFPC) in October 2014. Its goal is to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent over 5 years. Its strategy includes participating in a community coalition that targets neighborhoods at-risk for home fires; installs and tests smoke alarms; and provides fire safety and disaster preparedness education/planning. This position exists primarily to liaison with media, government agencies, community groups to mobilize support for the planning and implementation of the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. Helps mobilize community support and groups where rallies will take place, as well as works with local fire departments, government officials, and other community groups. Informs external community groups and stakeholders about the rally. The External Relations Lead also helps to build and sustain local coalitions to plan and implement the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign.
OPEN TIME DAYS
40 - 60 hours over the course of 2 -3 months, once a quarter on average

• Home Fire Preparedness Campaign Training: Safety for Home Visits, Fire Safety and Disaster Education, and other required training
