Golden Eagle Youth Engagement

ORGANIZATION: Ginew/Golden Eagles

Reading time

We have two groups, 5-10-year-olds meet on Monday and Tuesday and 11-18 meet on Wednesday and Thursday. During the school year, our times are M/T 5-7 pm and W/Th 5-8 pm

The Golden Eagle Program believes in embedded learning. A volunteer will spend anywhere from 15-30 minutes working with kids with explicit instruction in our homework/reading time. For the younger group, this may actually mean reading with the kids. They will also sit with the kids during meal times, modeling conversation skills and building a bond with the students. They will also participate in the day’s activities along with the kids-arts and crafts, cultural activities, physical recreation, games, and assorted outings. In some of these activities the kids may need assistance (such as with following instructions in a craft) in others they may need encouragement or simply someone to play with them. To be successful in this position you have to be comfortable with the kids and remain engaged and attentive throughout the evening. You do not need to have tutoring experience.

Volunteers are asked to pick a day and continue volunteering for at least 8 consecutive weeks on that day.
