ORGANIZATION: BULLPEN WAY STATION & SANCTUARY LTD

Love working with big dogs? Looking for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in non-profit management while making a real difference in the lives of rescued animals?

The Bullpen Way Station & Sanctuary is seeking a full time volunteer to manage day to day operations at our giant breed rescue and sanctuary located in Norwood, Georgia.

You will work independently and alongside our Executive Director in the many different aspects of the rehabilitation process. The opportunity offers a flexible schedule, and requires a minimum 6-month commitment.

This is a paid position: volunteer will be compensated with a weekly stipend, and housing accommodations will be provided (utilities not included).

Residence is a brand new one bedroom apt, private bath and a shared kitchen.

The home is located off-site (less than a quarter of a mile from the sanctuary), and has a large fenced yard with plenty of space for a garden.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum

Ability to

- Lift 50lbs

- Work outdoors

- Handle 100lbs+ dogs

- Comfortably interact with large animals

Plus

- Previous work in shelter/rescue

- Previous or current dog ownership

- Farm and/or construction experience

Preference given to applicants with

- Giant/guardian breed experience

- Experience with dog handling/training

The position is taking care of the 25+ giant breed dogs in our rescue program.

The role is split with another person and it's working, solo, 3.5 days a week and the other person works the other 3.5 day shift.

It is outside in Norwood, Georgia, so it's hot work this time of year. Norwood is rural and while a vehicle isn't required, it does make life "living rural" easier for our workers.

The stipend is $45 per diem for every working day, plus housing and utilities.

During training, it's $150 week plus housing and utilities. Once training completes, you work a 3.5 day work week, alone. I mention that again as we have had some very extroverted folks that struggled working alone with just the dogs for conversation.

The housing unit is furnished. It is a one bedroom apt (bedroom, private bath, living room, private laundry) with a shared kitchen that is located between apartments.

The daily role includes: cleaning the dog villas, picking up the waste in the yard, disposing of said waste via wheelbarrow, cleaning dog food/water bowls, doing dog laundry, feeding and administering medicines, taking the dogs in the house (our overflow space) out to play yards and cleaning/resetting their crates.

Additional but not daily tasks that might occur on you shift days are: helping to unload and sort a dog food delivery, mowing of the dog villa yards, bathing dogs for adoption appointments, taking a dog to a vet or helping transport a dog in a Bullpen vehicle, helping with dogs/puppies that get dumped on our property, feeding the barn cats.
