Position: Program Intern

Organization: Tickets for Kids Twin Cities

Tickets for Kids (TFK) is a national nonprofit organization that provides access to at-risk children and their families by making it possible for them to attend high-quality educational, sporting, arts, cultural, and entertainment events. Since 1994, TFK ( http://www.ticketsforkids.org) has reached more than one million children nationwide. Tickets are donated by venues, presenting organizations, teams, universities, sponsors, and individuals and then distributed by TFK through more than 3,000 approved social services agencies around the country.

Tickets for Kids Charities seeks an intern who will be an integral member of our growing organization. Potential projects can include: researching prospective new markets and donors, developing relationships with ticket donors and agency partners, and developing an orientation overview video.

Must be: able to work remotely, detail-oriented, responsible, able to communicate effectively, and be very comfortable speaking and working with the public. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Hours are flexible during business hours (8:30-5:00 M-F) with the possibility of some evening/weekend event hours. Tickets for Kids Twin Cities does not have a main office, so interns work remotely. This is an unpaid internship; arrangements can be made for school credit. Email resume and cover letter detailing your interest in interning at Tickets for Kids Charities to Emily@ticketsforkids.org.

Mission Statement

Tickets for Kids Charities (TFK) is dedicated to enriching the lives of low-income and at-risk children and their families by including them in a variety of activities and events that are a source of enlightenment, education and inspiration. By facilitating equitable access to the world of ideas, accomplishment, creativity and culture, TFK contributes to the growth and well-being of the children and families served and the community at large.

Description

Established in Pittsburgh in 1994, the inspiration for Tickets for Kids(r) Charities came to founder Susan Weiner during a ballgame. The empty seats in the auditorium seemed so wasteful, and so unnecessary. Couldn’t those seats be filled by in-need kids?

A nearly identical idea occurred in 2000 to Robb Neuenschwander, Twin Cities resident and avid University of Minnesota Gopher basketball fan. Frustrated that so many game seats went unused, Robb founded Tix for Tots to fill those seats with kids and mentors who could use them.

Recognizing their shared vision and nearly identical missions, Tix for Tots was merged into Tickets for Kids in 2016. Through partnerships with approved and vetted social service agencies serving disadvantaged children and families, TFK has distributed more than 2.6 million tickets valued in excess of $51.3 million to experiences in the areas of arts & culture, education & STEM, sports & recreation, and family entertainment. In 2016 alone, TFK distributed more than 160,000 tickets valued at over $5 million, and partnered with social service agencies in 41 states.
