CREATE Arts Center, a nonprofit organization in downtown Silver Spring, is looking for a Treasurer with a background in finance, accounting, business or a related field to join our Board of Directors.

For 30 years CREATE has been inspiring art through classes, camps, and art therapy. We are a small organization committed to our mission of inspiring creativity, developing art skills, improving self-confidence, and enhancing enjoyment of the arts through art education for the general public and art therapy for those with a variety of needs.

The CREATE Board of Directors provides the leadership, vision, and strategic planning for the organization. Directors participate in organizational governance and oversight, and explore ways to open doors for expanded fundraising opportunities, recruitment of board members, and new marketing and public relations opportunities.

We are looking for an energetic self-starter with an interest in art, art therapy, and/or art education to take on the role of Treasurer. As an officer of the corporation and member of the Board, the primary responsibility of the Treasurer is to oversee the management and reporting of the organization’s finances. In this position, the Treasurer works closely with our Executive Director to plan budgets, review audits, and monitor our financial health. The Treasurer will be expected to attend all board meetings, understand accounting for non-profits, serve on the finance committee, and present annual budget to the board for approval.

The ideal candidate will need to be comfortable in a grassroots environment and like to take initiative to get things done. Desirable qualifications include attention to detail, timeliness in completing tasks, neat and accurate record keeping, and a willingness to ask questions.
