Join all-volunteer Friends of Five Creeks on a "walking work party," giving nature a hand while enjoying views and learning about the fascinating geology and history of the bits of ancient volcanoes that help make the North Berkeley Hills so picturesque.
Meet at Grotto Rock Park, 879 Santa Barbara (just north of Indian Rock Ave., close to AC Transit 67 on Spruce). We'll remove broom, acacia, and blackberry along with smaller weeds. Then we'll walk down Indian Rock Avenue to Mortar Rock Park, named for deep holes worn by Native Americans pounding seeds. We'll remove small weeds to help the blooming hummingbird sage, iris, and wild strawberry, as well as other natives, continue to flourish and spread.
Tools, gloves, and snacks provided! All ages welcome! Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction. Groups of 5 or more please RSVP. Questions? Email f5creeks@gmail.com.

Mission Statement
Friends of Five Creeks is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1996, working hands-on to protect and restore creeks, watersheds, and nature in Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, and south Richmond, on the east shore of San Francisco Bay.
Description
Besides frequent volunteer events, for the general public and for school, religious, business, or other groups, we lead walks, host free Bay Currents talks on nature and environment, publish a monthly e-newsletter on Bay Area environmental news, and advocate for political action on creek and watershed issues.
