Volunteers are needed to help manage the barnyard at the Lake Superior Zoo. Volunteers will be required to go through volunteer orientation and barn training as well as complete one staff-supervised shift before being allowed to volunteer on their own. Barn volunteers are responsible for letting visitors in and out of the barn yard and for working in the yard to make sure that interactions between zoo visitors and barn animals stay positive.

All barn volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer application, attend a volunteer interview, attend a volunteer orientation, attend a barn training session, and complete one supervised shift before volunteering on their own. All barn volunteers must pass a background check to participate in the program. Barn volunteers must have excellent communication and people skills, be comfortable learning about or have experience with barn animals (goats, sheep, donkey, ducks, mini horse, llama), and must be able to remain calm in a busy environment.
