Housing Catalyst’s Redtail Ponds development is a mixed-income community with 40 units for formerly homeless individuals and 20 units for individuals earning up to 50% of the Area Median Income. Each independent apartment features a full kitchen and bathroom. Supportive services include case management, life skills coaching, and/or therapeutic services to empower and equip residents with the skills needed to live with greater self-determination and independence.

Title: Basic Computer Skills Specialist

Need: Basic Computer Skill Specialist to assist residents in learning/enhancing basic computer skills. (It should be noted that some residents have essentially no familiarity with computers)

Deliverables: The volunteer will collaborate with Redtail Ponds staff and Volunteer Program Coordinator to provide residents with the knowledge of basic computer skills and/or enhance existing computer skills.

Key Responsibilities and Work Environment: Key responsibilities include teaching basic computer skills to residents that includes instruction on how to set up personal email, how to write, attach and send word documents, and how to search the internet for job postings and employment opportunities. (An emphasis should be placed on the importance of learning these skills and increasing self-reliance for seeking and securing employment)

Qualifications: The volunteer must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and be comfortable instructing/guiding residents in a one on one or group setting in basic computer skills. Must also have excellent communication/teaching skills and be able to explain basic computer applications and functions in a clear and simple manner.

Training and Support: Redtail Ponds Staff and Volunteer Service Program Coordinator will work closely with the service provider to provide them with training regarding policies and procedures for Permanent Supportive Housing and Harm Reduction Models, client population and appropriate volunteer-resident interaction.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 2 hours (flexible), requested minimum 6 month duration.
