ORGANIZATION: New Beginnings - Without Violence and Abuse

  • 6 people are interested

New Beginnings is dedicated to ending sexual, domestic, and stalking violence through the provision of safe and effective services, including emergency refuge and support; and works toward social change by promoting an effective community response to violence. We are looking for talented and dedicated individuals to join our fabulous group of volunteers! Crisis Response Line Advocates help New Beginnings ensure that services are accessible twenty-four hours a day. Advocates answer calls remotely and empower survivors of violence to make their own choices in their own time and in their own way, facilitating the shelter intake process and offering accompaniment to local hospitals and police departments when necessary. Forty-hour, comprehensive trainings are held three times each year, and give you all the tools you need to help make our communities safer and healthier. Our next training will begin the first week of May!

Mission Statement

New Beginnings is dedicated to ending sexual, domestic, and stalking violence through the provision of safe and effective services, including emergency refuge and support; and works toward social change by promoting an effective community response to violence.

Description

New Beginnings provides non-judgmental support and advocacy for survivors, including ongoing case management and support in order to assist each survivor in establishing safety and overcoming the effects of abuse. Community education is focused on building awareness of domestic and sexual violence, ensuring that survivors are aware of available services, promoting the prevention of violence by shifting cultural norms that condone violence, and holding perpetrators accountable for the harm they cause to victims and the community. Education activities include school presentations to children and youth, awareness events, and presentations to community groups.

New Beginnings is the only organization in Belknap County serving victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Services offered include a twenty-four hour crisis response line, emergency shelter, peer counseling, support groups for all ages, and advocacy within the criminal justice and social service systems.
