Take care of our conservatory plants by planting, weeding, pruning, watering, integrated pest management scouting and doing other assigned tasks as needed.

Looking for a friendly volunteer interested in coming in to maintain plants a couple times a week.

(During summer months we need folks interested in caring for outdoor landscaping plants as well)

In light of COVID-19 the Butterfly House and Aquarium requires ALL staff and volunteers to wear a face covering during the duration of their shift. For the safety of our staff, volunteers, guests, and animals, ALL guests* are required to wear a face covering upon entrance to the facility. There are also several hand sanitizing stations at the entrance to each exhibit and heightened cleaning procedures throughout the day.

*Guests under the age of 2 are not required to wear a face covering. Guests between the ages of 2-6 are encouraged to wear a face covering. Please inquire with the Butterfly House and Aquarium Staff with further questions.

Mission Statement

Inspiring conservation of the vital building blocks of sea, sky, and land

Description

The Butterfly House & Aquarium is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are the only public saltwater aquarium in the Dakotas and one of only a few butterfly houses nationwide that are open year-round.

A home to thousands of species, coral reefs are one of the most biodiverse environments on the planet. They also serve as fish nurseries, providing protection, food and shelter for young scaly swimmers. The Aquarium Gallery at the Butterfly House & Aquarium displays hundreds of different species of fishes and corals in over 10,000 gallons of aquariums. From coral reefs and anemones, to seahorses and tangs, our saltwater exhibits are home to marine life from the Indo-Pacific region to the Caribbean.

Step into the jungle, where lush vegetation surrounds you and it’s always a balmy 80 degrees. Over 800 butterflies from every corner of the globe welcome you to their 3,600 square foot home in the Dakota’s largest insectarium. Enjoy the serenity and awe-inspiring beauty that is the Butterfly House on your local tropical getaway.

A fun atmosphere designed for exploration and learning is what you’ll find at the Discovery Den, where parents and children examine nature’s wonders through interactive exhibits, activities and educational displays.
