Parent Support Program Intern/Volunteer

Purpose/Objective:
The Family Support Partner volunteer will assist families in navigating systems and resources. The intern will also help increase the dissemination of information for services and educational opportunities for parents and will, ultimately, help increase the overall engagement of parents this program serves.
Location:
Murphy Canyon/Clairemont Area
Start Date - End Date:
As early as Mid-May 2017 for a minimum of 4 months or one semester (Can volunteer longer if available)
Key Responsibilities:
~Responsible for providing peer support, resource information, referrals and pre-crisis intervention to families for improved community functioning
~Assist in community outreach opportunities and events and to promote parent education classes and workshops or any other parent engagement opportunity
~Assist with non-clinical case management and parent education to identified families to ensure connections to resources and successful navigation of those resources
~Administrative duties related to case management, research of resources and other administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications:
~Must be at least 18 years old
~Must be cleared through TB test, drug test, background check
~Will be asked to provide references
~Must have reliable transportation
~Strong preference for parent who has a child with a disability and knowledge of the IEP process.
~Degree not required however those who have a background in (AA, BA, MSW, MA, Majors: social work and/or early child development experience
Time Commitment:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am-1:00pm
Training and Support:
Will receive support and supervision and guidance from Program Manager in being a parent partner.
Wellness and self-care training.
