If a patron comes to Skyline for food assistance for the first time, we like to provide them a private place to share their information as they get a new case made.
This is why the new intake position is so essential and requires a balance of sensitivity and logic, plus comfort using a computer. A patron will have already filled out a paper with all of the data that needs to be entered into the system, but we would like volunteers who are able to help people feel at ease and treated with respect throughout the process. The ideal volunteer would be someone friendly and nonjudgmental, as well as comfortable with enforcing policy.
Because it takes at least a week to get used to using the database and learning policy, this is considered a long-term position. Skyline staff can work with volunteers' availability!
