Community Volunteer, Social Media Job Description:
Your opportunity! There are many people in your community that deal with breast cancer every single day and are not aware of the support that is offered through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society. YOU have the ability to use social media to spread the word about all the ways Making Strides and the Society can help them on their cancer journey.
Position Summary: The community volunteer, social media, will work closely with the Making Strides staff partner to implement a social media strategy that promotes awareness of and participation in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society throughout the year. This person will strive to promote broad public awareness of the Society programs and services in conjunction with increasing attendance and fundraising opportunities through Making Strides.
Characteristics: The ideal volunteer for this position:
- Knowledgeable about various social media channels
- Willing to keep the page active all year long
Duties:
- Familiarize yourself with the social media channels active for your event (including Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram). If no channels exist, discuss with your staff partner the best platform to start with.
- Develop a timeline for regular, engaging posts and updates that is active all year long. Utilize tools from Brand Toolkit or reach out to your staff or communications partner for suggestions. Depending on the channel, posts should be at least daily if not more often.
- Develop relationships on social media. Follow official Eastern Division and American Cancer Society national channels, relevant community channels, sponsor pages, etc.
- Implement strategies to increase your following, including promoting social media channels at the kick off breakfast, through email communications, and at the event itself.
- Work with staff partner, key staff, and volunteers to seek out interesting and engaging content to be shared, including photos from meetings and fundraisers, shout outs to new teams, and sponsor recognition.
- Consider launching challenges to encourage social media growth and/or fundraising challenges.
- Responds in a timely manner to messages and comments.
