This is a great program for anyone interested in politics, government, state, and local issues and gives valuable work experience in the field. You will have the opportunity to meet many elected officials and others who work and are involved in politics and governance.

For nearly 100 years, volunteers for the League have evaluated and rated candidates in selected local and state races according to the criteria of Character, Involvement, Effectiveness and Knowledge as opposed to political party, platform or position on specific issues.

Intern Duties:

* Act as the liaison between the volunteers and the Municipal League staff.

* Assist the program coordinator and committee chair in conducting committee meetings and candidate interviews.

* Greet, brief and aid candidates in preparing for their interviews. * Handle committee logistics and materials.

* Learn about local issues.

* Work with citizens interested in local politics and public policy.

In addition, in your Candidate Investigator role you will:

* Research public sources and resources for information on candidates.

* Create background information files on candidates.

* Assist committee volunteers in further researching information about candidates.

Qualifications: Should be familiar with online research techniques. Must be helpful, cooperative, and motivated to provide support that meets the needs of committee members and the candidates. Access to own computer highly desirable. Thorough familiarity with researching information on the Internet highly desirable. Training on research specific to the candidate investigations will be provided.

Specifics: Four positions available. 15-20 hours/week (3 weeks in the evenings) for 4-5 weeks, plus two training sessions. Use of personal vehicle is required.

Timeline: The CEC/CI internship runs approximately from May 18th through June 30th.

Since 1910, the Municipal League of King County has been a voluntary civic organization dedicated to effective and responsive government. League members are people like you, interested in maintaining good government and willing to get involved. They read the League's Issue Watch and Muni News publications to stay informed about the issues facing local governments. They join study committees, such as those on transportation and growth management, among others, and serve on the Candidate Evaluation Committees.
