ORGANIZATION: Muscular Dystrophy Association

MDA

Placement Description: Intern will assist with fundraising events during the research, planning, marketing and sales process. This can be either part-time with consistent hours or a full-time placement for the semester. Events needing assistance include: MDA family-focused Muscle Walk, and Shamrock account maintenance.

Students interested in gaining experience in sales, marketing, non-profit management, event planning and public relations would be a good fit for this experience.

Candidates must be personable, dependable, and proficient in Microsoft Office and possess strong written and oral communication skills.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a national non-profit with a Wilmington area district office charged with the responsibility of providing healthcare services to the over 700 local families with muscle disease.

MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.

The Coastal Carolinas District covers 25 Counties in North and South Carolina.

Description

Through some 235 hospital-affiliated clinics, MDA offers quality medical care from doctors, nurses and therapists experienced in dealing with neuromuscular diseases. These clinics also serve as sites for clinical trials of the latest experimental therapies and drugs. MDA also offers about 290 support groups for those with neuromuscular diseases and their families. In addition, each year more than 4000 youngsters attend weeklong MDA summer camps.
