The salvage team travels to local and remote locations to clean up the land and collect desert treasures. MDLT has many parcels of land that are surrounded by beautiful landscapes. We need a lot of help from volunteers who are willing to wander around these parcels and find the treasure!
This team is a hardy bunch that enjoys being outside, hauling things around, taking things apart, and organizing a variety of materials.
We are also in need of volunteers to help out at our Salvage Sales. This is a chance for folks from the art community to come and purchase materials for their projects. The sale of desert treasures during our recurring Salvage Saturdays supports our conservation programs.
Volunteers who help us during these sales are paving the way for new conservation community programs.

Description
MDLT has preserved more than 65,000 acres of critically needed wildlife habitat. Conserving 65,000 acres means that tens of thousands of endangered Joshua Trees have been preserved. 15,000 acres of desert tortoise habitat is protected. 6,000 acres of national parks have been created or 25 square miles added to the National Park Service. 17,000 acres of land preserved inside of our national parks or 27 square miles. 6,000 acres have been added to our National Wilderness system and 14,000 acres preserved inside our desert wilderness areas. 3,400 acres of wildlife linkages vital for breeding and migration are preserved. Tons of garbage, debris, and more than 500 tires have been removed.
The Wildlife Society awarded us the 2011 "Conservation of the Year Award" and in 2013 the Desert Tortoise Council presented us with the "Glenn R. Stewart Award" for habitat preservation.
MDLT employs land specialists and trains volunteer land stewards for the monitoring and restoration of MDLT-acquired lands -- currently 363 parcels or 18,328 acres.
