ORGANIZATION: Break the Silence against Domestic Violence

Our Mission

To educate communities on the dangers of domestic violence, connect victims and survivors, and assist them in the transformation of their lives - by providing a personal development retreat, scholarships, financial empowerment, an advocate-run hotline, and our innovative awareness campaigns.

Our Vision

Our goal is to cultivate a culture where healthy relationships are at the forefront of the conversation and education on domestic violence has become common knowledge for all of humanity - the silence has been broken.

Expectations of Board of Directors

The responsibility of our Board is to ensure that the mission, vision, and values of our organization are clear, focused, continually progressing, and constantly upholding its integrity. We heavily rely on the support and efforts of our distinguished board members to uphold an involved leadership position throughout their tenure. Each board member is required to be financially committed to our mission with a minimum board "give or get" of $2,000 each calendar year. Our board conducts monthly conference calls to maintain financial obligations, legal matters, and also to discuss the state of the organization. We expect all board members to be present and active during each call. Additionally, due to the nature and constant growth of BTS members serve on a working board (not just a governance board).

What is the Selection Process?

  1. Fill out Board Member Application

  2. Upon completion, Board Development Committee will review all applicants
  3. If pre-qualified, candidate will be interviewed by two current Board Members
  4. Assigned to Committee if they are approved and agree

  5. Actively serve on committee for 60-90 days

  6. Current board members will vote on vetting based on participation of potential candidate
  7. If vetted, they will read and review most recent copy of New Board Member Packet (NBMP)

  8. Sign and submit Receipt of NBMP to current Board President

  9. Go through an orientation with current Board President

What if I’m not selected?

We receive dozens of applications each month, the BTS Board of Directors selection committee is looking for the most qualified individuals to serve on our Executive Team. At this time, we are only looking for professionals with a background in Marketing, Finance, Fundraising, Academia, or Leadership Development.

If you are not asked to serve on the Board, you are still welcome to apply to become a volunteer. Our members are the strength of BTS. Our volunteer team has many ways you can be of service to our organization and our movement. Thank you again for your interest!
